Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Grab itSteam Deck: PlayableLowest Steam price ever
Steam: $9.99 (75% off) · regular price $39.99 · 91% positive Steam reviews (164,820) · ended Oct 19, 1:00 PM ET
What it is: This collection gathers six first-person shooter campaigns, from Halo: Reach and the remastered Combat Evolved and Halo 2 through Halo 3, ODST and Halo 4, for 67 missions of sci-fi war against alien forces. You can flip between the original and updated graphics in the remastered games, and the Forge editor lets you build your own maps and modes. The PC version adds ultrawide support, field-of-view settings and proper mouse and keyboard controls.
What players say: Newcomers and longtime fans alike rave about the campaigns, the story, the music and how well the older games hold up. The big sore spot is the required Microsoft sign-in, which leaves some people stuck at login even when they only want to play solo.
Good to know: Each of the six games brings its own multiplayer maps and modes, adding up to more than 120 maps.
Worth buying? Never played Halo? Start here: 91% of Steam reviewers recommend it and it has never been cheaper, though anyone unwilling to link a Microsoft account should skip it.
High On Life

Grab itSteam Deck: VerifiedLowest Steam price ever
Steam: $9.99 (75% off) · regular price $39.99 · 89% positive Steam reviews (14,310) · ended Oct 22, 1:00 PM ET
What it is: High On Life is a comedy first-person shooter from Squanch Games in which a jobless high school graduate becomes an intergalactic bounty hunter after an alien cartel invades Earth to use humans as a drug. Your weapons are chatty, wisecracking guns, each with its own special ability, and you hunt the cartel's bosses across places like a jungle world and a city carved into an asteroid.
What players say: Players enjoy the rapid-fire humor and the talking guns, and the simple, easygoing combat suits short sessions. Not every joke lands, though, and some feel little is left once the comedy wears off.
Good to know: It is not a VR game; it was made for regular flat screens.
Worth buying? Fans of irreverent sci-fi comedy get a laugh-heavy adventure with 89% positive reviews, now at its best Steam price yet.
Sulfur

Grab itSteam Deck: VerifiedLowest Steam price ever
Steam: $9.99 (60% off) · regular price $24.99 · 90% positive Steam reviews (6,115) · ended Oct 22, 1:00 PM ET
What it is: Sulfur is a roguelite first-person shooter where you descend through eerie caves, grimy shanties, sewers and castle grounds, fighting creatures and hauling back loot. You tune your guns with attachments and enchantments to craft your own build, but anything you carry into a run can be lost if you die, so every expedition is a gamble. Enemies appear as flat 2D sprites in 3D environments, giving it a distinctive look.
What players say: Fans like how it blends looter-shooter gear hunting with roguelite runs, and that it can be played slow and careful or fast and frantic. Several dislike recent balance changes that make leveling up weapons more of a grind.
Good to know: It is still in early access, so content and balance can change.
Worth buying? If punishing runs and gun tinkering appeal, this 90%-rated shooter is worth grabbing at its lowest price ever.
Cult of the Lamb

Grab itSteam Deck: VerifiedRuns on older PCs
Steam: $12.49 (50% off) · regular price $24.99 · 96% positive Steam reviews (61,212) · It was $9.99 on Steam within the past year · ended Oct 19, 1:00 PM ET
What it is: In Cult of the Lamb you play a possessed lamb rescued by a sinister stranger, and you repay him by founding a cult of woodland critters. At home you build structures, preach sermons and hold dark rituals; out in the world you fight through randomly generated dungeons and take down rival cult leaders. The cute cartoon art sits on top of some surprisingly grim humor.
What players say: The adorable visuals paired with dark themes are a big draw, and people get oddly attached to their followers, naming, dressing and mourning them.
Good to know: It supports co-op, including local split-screen.
Worth buying? Worth owning for anyone who likes base-building mixed with roguelite dungeon runs, as 96% of Steam reviews agree; it was $9.99 within the past year, so buy now if you want it soon or wait for a deeper sale.
Astral Ascent

Grab itSteam Deck: VerifiedLowest Steam price everRuns on older PCs
Steam: $9.99 (60% off) · regular price $24.99 · 95% positive Steam reviews (1,837) · ended Oct 15, 1:00 PM ET
What it is: Astral Ascent is a 2D platformer roguelite in which you try to break out of the Garden, an astral prison watched over by twelve Zodiac bosses. You choose one of four heroes, each with their own weapon and personality, and build a spell loadout as you fight through four worlds. Combat is fast and combo-heavy, with each Zodiac bringing distinct attacks.
What players say: Most reviews celebrate the flashy, fluid combat, the boss fights, the pixel art and the build variety. A handful find the hits lack impact and the basic attacks unsatisfying.
Good to know: Each of the twelve Zodiac bosses has its own backstory to uncover.
Worth buying? Roguelite players who love chaining spells into big combos should jump in while it sits at its lowest Steam price, backed by 95% positive reviews.
Ravenswatch

Grab itSteam Deck: Playable
Steam: $12.49 (50% off) · regular price $24.99 · 85% positive Steam reviews (8,472) · It was $9.99 on Steam within the past year · ended Oct 22, 1:00 PM ET
What it is: Ravenswatch is a roguelike brawler viewed from above that casts you as darker takes on storybook heroes, such as a Little Red Riding Hood cursed with werewolf powers, Sun Wukong and the Snow Queen. A corrupting Nightmare has overrun the dream world of Reverie, and you race across three open maps completing tasks and powering up before the boss fight. You can go solo or team up with up to three others online.
What players say: Players love the distinct heroes, the deep build options and the MOBA-like teamwork, though many admit it takes a while to click and you'll die often early on. The most shared gripe is the lack of map and enemy variety, which makes things feel stale over time.
Good to know: It comes from Passtech Games, the studio behind Curse of the Dead Gods.
Worth buying? Friends hunting for a fairy-tale co-op brawler will find a deep one here at 85% positive; it hit $9.99 within the past year, so patient buyers can hold out for a deeper sale.
World War Z

Worth a trySteam Deck: PlayableLowest Steam price ever
Steam: $7.49 (75% off) · regular price $29.99 · 84% positive Steam reviews (7,513) · ended Oct 23, 1:00 PM ET
What it is: World War Z is a co-op third-person shooter based on the Paramount film, where four survivors battle through campaigns set in New York, Moscow, Jerusalem and Japan. The highlight is the sheer size of the hordes, with hundreds of zombies scrambling over one another and jamming narrow corridors to get at you. You level up one of eight classes, such as Medic or Gunslinger, unlock weapon upgrades as you go, and can also try a PvP mode.
What players say: Watching massive swarms climb over each other gives a real rush at first. On the downside, the missions grow repetitive and many feel too much content, including whole maps, sits behind paid DLC.
Worth buying? Best enjoyed with a full squad of friends, this zombie shooter holds 84% positive reviews and has never been cheaper on Steam, though solo players or anyone bothered by DLC-locked maps may tire of it quickly.
Space Haven

Worth a trySteam Deck: VerifiedRuns on older PCs
Steam: $9.99 (60% off) · regular price $24.99 · 84% positive Steam reviews (6,051) · Close to its lowest Steam price of the past year ($9.19) · ended Oct 22, 1:00 PM ET
What it is: Space Haven is a spaceship colony sim where you guide a crew of civilians across space in search of a new home. You design ships tile by tile, then keep everyone alive by managing oxygen, carbon dioxide, temperature, power and your crew's needs and moods, while meeting other groups along the way.
What players say: Building ships piece by piece is the big draw and keeps people tinkering for hours on end. Even fans, though, find parts of the interface and some systems clunky enough to hold it back.
Good to know: It's single-player only.
Worth buying? Patient builders willing to look past rough edges will get plenty from it at 84% positive, and a price close to its yearly low makes it a fair buy.

GigaBash

Grab itSteam Deck: Verified
STOVE: Free · regular price $24.99 on Steam · 94% positive Steam reviews (2,173)
What it is: GigaBash is a 3D arena fighter where up to four giant monsters, heroes and mechs pound each other across cities that crumble under every punch. Building up energy lets you transform into a towering final form, and there are solo story campaigns for the original Titans alongside a wave-survival mode and wacky party minigames.
What players say: Kaiju fans are delighted by the roster, especially the guest appearances from Godzilla, Gamera and Ultraman. The main wish is simply for more, since the story content feels limited.
Good to know: Online matches support cross-play with friends on Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and the Epic Games Store.
Worth grabbing? Claim this if you want a destructive party fighter for up to four players; its 94% positive Steam rating is well earned.
Vaultbreakers Starter Pack

Alienware Arena: Free
What it is: This is a bundle of in-game items for Vaultbreakers: 2,000 Gold, 100 Legacy, a supply of Healing Potions and a few other extras. It gives your account a head start rather than adding new content.
Good to know: It's an add-on key, so you'll need Vaultbreakers itself to make use of it.
Worth grabbing? Worth claiming only if you play Vaultbreakers or plan to start, since the gold and potions are its whole appeal.
Steam Deck results are Valve's own tests of the Steam version. Runs on older PCs means 4 GB of RAM or less.
